BARC at ArtScience Museum
We designed a larger scale version of BARC for the “Another World is Possible” exhibition at ArtScience Museum. This exhibition showcases work around how material culture, physical space, and digital experience are all intertwined in our ever-evolving hybrid culture.
BARC is a multiplayer arcade shooter game where players must scan barcodes in both the virtual and physical world to complete different objectives.
Players take on the role of a warehouse employee equipped with a magical barcode scanner. Besides stocking delivery drones, they will need to wield the scanner to repair broken equipment and defeat hostile enemies. Game tasks are delivered to the player via a receipt printer in the real world, and players must manage the onslaught of virtual agents and torrent of physical receipts to complete their shift.
Compared to the original, BARC @ ArtScience Museum is scaled up to allow 4 players to collaborate simultaneously. It comprises a 4x2 meter display and 7 receipt printers across a wider tabletop. The larger scale provokes more dynamic connections and requires even more cooperation between players.
The “Another World is Possible” exhibition is from 13th September 2025 to 22nd February 2026.
